The newly-formed Ojai Peace Network's inaugural event, the Day Of Peace honoring the International Day of Peace (Sept 21), was a full day of music, speakers, dance, lecture, meditation, art, and more. It was held at the Ojai Art Center on September 21, 2015. The 2015 NOBLE Peace Prize was awarded in the late afternoon, toward the end of the day's activities. |
This year's honoree was Renee Mandala. Renee is well-known and -loved in our community primarily for her impassioned work with two non-profits, through which she is providing powerfully important and compassionate services to some demographics most in need of such.
The Nan Tolbert Nurturing Center, headquartered at the Oak View Park and Resource Center in Oak View, CA, describes its work thus: "We are dedicated to the nurture of children pre-birth to five, through inspiring partnerships and community resources that address pre and post-natal well being, infant/ toddler development, and parent education and support.
In partnership with parents, health professionals, educators and the community, we create opportunities to connect, to explore, and to engage directly in the development of healthy approaches to early childhood education."
In service to those goals, the Center offers:
"Cancer does not discriminate between those who can afford care and those who cannot — and neither do we. Through compassionate care and a variety of complementary integrative services, we strive to make each cancer journey as easy and peaceful as possible. Compassion is the key
OjaiCARES Cancer Resource Center is the only non-profit community-based organization providing comprehensive cancer support services to the Ojai Valley."
Renee's service to our community, rendered primarily through these two critical areas of the lifespan, is exemplary and inspiring. Volunteer opportunities exist in both of the featured organizations.
