This year, we honor a local organization that has rallied our community together under a common vision, with tremendous talent and effort, to protect one of our most essential natural resources: our water.
They have helped show that individuals can come together and have greater influence than a wealthy corporation, in our community’s thus far successful campaign to replace a for-profit water company with a non-profit, municipal water district.
Ojai Peace Coalition founder evan austin spoke briefly on the docket at TEDxOjai -- a day of streamed & live talks about urban ingenuity, interdependence, sustainable solutions, & collaborative action, held at the OYES Theater on Matilija Street -- before inviting Ojai FLOW Steering Committee member Stan Greene to the stage to accept the 2013 NOBLE Peace Prize on behalf of the organization.
Ojai FLOW received a standing ovation, and Stan's remarks were very well received, with several people approaching him afterward to hear more about FLOW's activities and future, as well as his own take on a variety of issues.

Ojai FLOW (Friends of Locally Owned Water) is a group of over 2,000 Ojai voters that have come together to take back their water. They want to buy-out Golden State Water Company that has a franchise agreement with the City of Ojai and have their water system managed by a one of the local publicly owned water companies that charges a third of what Golden State Water Company currently charges.
